OnStep Controller – GDA — Last updated May 2026
OnStep Controller – GDA (“the app”) is a telescope mount control application for iOS. This policy explains what data the app accesses and how it is used.
Data We Do Not Collect
The app does not:
- Collect, store, or transmit any personal information
- require an account or registration
- use analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs
- share any data with third parties
- send any data to external servers
Bluetooth
The app uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) solely to communicate with your OnStep telescope mount controller on your local network. No Bluetooth data is recorded, stored, or transmitted beyond your device and mount.
Location
The app requests your device location to calculate which stars and objects are currently visible in your sky. This information is used entirely on-device to render the star chart and assist with telescope alignment. Your location is never transmitted off your device.
Local Network (WiFi)
When using the WiFi connection mode, the app communicates directly with your OnStep controller on your local network using the LX200 serial protocol. No data leaves your local network.
Data Retention
The app stores only your WiFi host/port preferences locally on your device using standard iOS app storage. This data never leaves your device.
Children’s Privacy
The app does not collect any data from any user, including children under 13.
