Authorized OnStep Dealer

The main creator of OnStep, Howard Dutton. Has chosen Gray Digital Arts as one of the authorized dealers of OnStep PCBs. We will be able to sell the open source GPL 3.0 licensed PCBs and his PCB designs that are non-commercial licensed PCBs.

My son will also be helping me as he is looking for some extra pocket money and I thought this would be a good learning experience for him.

Thanks for all of the support!

  1. hello, I have an eq6 goto mount, unfortunately the motherboard burned out. I would like to know if the onstep kit drivers can handle the original skywatcher stepper motors.
    Thank you

    1. I only have experience with stepper motors and OnStep. Last i knew DC servo motors (i assume this i what the eq6 uses) are possible with OnStep, but it is not well documented or tested. I would only try this if you are very experienced with electronics of these types.

There are probably examples of the EQ6 being converted to stepper motors on the showcase page.

  2. I’m building a DIY strain wave mount that uses NEMA 17 steppers and planetary drives. I *think* I want to end up with a MAXPCB4e with a hardwired ethernet connector and “generic” stepper drivers. (I plan on using an outboard ethernet-to-wifi bridge)

Is your MAXPCB4 kit the right place to start?
    Thanks!

    1. With Ethernet you do need to understand your network and how to setup IP addresses on your network. I recommend using a static IP address so that means you need to pick and IP address on your network that will work along with gateway address and net mask.

The Teensy is the most powerful MCU. I always recommend you purchase that from PJRC.com website. I cannot get them at a discount, but i do have some in stock if you want me to setup them up for you. It just costs more money to buy from me.

But yes the MaxPCB4E is a great PCB with super fast MCU’s. Just as long as you understand the networking side of things.
